The Port of Stockton Receives Another Award for Financial Reporting
Stockton, CA, March 17, 2003 – The Port of Stockton has received a distinguishing award for its 2001 – 02 (FY) Comprehensive Annual Financial Report from the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers (CSMFO). The award received is called the “Award for Outstanding Financial Reporting” and was awarded for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2002.
“The Port of Stockton is very pleased to receive this distinction form the CSMFO,” said Richard Aschieris.
Vice-Chair, Karen P. Brust, of the CSMFO Professional and Technical Standards Committee, in her letter of notification of receipt of the award to the Port wrote, “Your efforts to enhance the quality of financial reporting by special districts in California are recognized and appreciated by your peers....” The Port of Stockton was one of twenty-five municipal, special district recipients of this award, and the only California Port Authority.
In addition to this award, the Port’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report received an award last August from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada. GFOA awarded the Port with the Certificate for Excellence in Financial Reporting.
The Port of Stockton financially operates with revenues from maritime and real estate operations. Taxpayer dollars are not used to support operations at the Port. The Port is the premier inland, bulk cargo port in California and the West Coast, creating more than 2,000 family-wage jobs in the Greater Stockton Area. Many bulk product firms, retailers and agricultural interests depend upon the Port of Stockton for export, import, distribution and warehousing.
