Stockton Port District Board of Port Commissioners Elects New Chair and Vice Chair

Stockton, CA, March 4, 2002 – The Stockton Port District Board of Port Commissioners elected Commissioner Gary Christopherson to position of Chairman of the Board and Commissioner Steven Herum to be Vice Chairman for the coming year. 

In 2001, Commissioner W. Ronald Coale held the position of Chairman and Commissioner Christopherson was the Vice Chairman.  The change is an annual rotation.  The new officers are nominated and voted on by their colleagues on the seven-member Board. 

Chairman Christopherson has been on the Board since February, 1999.  He is a native of the City of Stockton and was appointed to the Board by the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors.  Mr. Christopherson is a partner at the law firm Kroloff, Belcher, Smart, Perry and Christopherson practicing real estate law.

Vice Chairman Herum has been on the Board since March of 2000.  Mr. Herum is an active community participant in Stockton and the County.  He is a partner with the law firm Herum, Crabtree & Brown. 

The Port of Stockton is the premier inland port for the State of California and the Central Valley.  Many bulk product firms and agricultural interests depend upon this port for export and import.  The Port is uniquely adjacent to major freeways (Interstate 5 and Highway 99) and south of Interstate 80.  The Port is conveniently located for the nation’s agricultural frontrunner, the California Central Valley.
