SCB Enters into Agreement with Port of Stockton for the development of Grinding Facility to serve Northern California Construction Industry.

SCB International Materials has entered into an option agreement with the Port of Stockton regarding the development of a 120,000 MT Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GBFS) Grinding facility to serve the Northern California construction industry. GBFS is a byproduct of the steel industry which when ground and blended with Portland cement improves the strength, chemical resistance, and durability of the resultant concrete. Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS) is a cementitious material and can be substituted for cement on a 1:1 basis. In addition to the performance benefits and cost savings this material requires 75% less energy to produce compared to Portland cement.

The project is anticipated to take 12 – 18 months from permit approval utilizing a modular grinding technology which will greatly reduce equipment lead time and facilitate a smooth startup. The finished product will be marketed in early 2017 with an eye to satisfying the demand for cementitious products as required for all CALTRANS projects under AB32.

California set the stage for its transition to a sustainable, low-carbon future with the passage of AB32, the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006. By requiring in law a sharp reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, AB32 was the first program in the country to take a comprehensive, long-term approach to addressing climate change, improving energy efficiency, expanding the use of renewable energy resources, cleaner transportation, and reducing waste.
